VIETNAM - I'm a Global Surveyor

Name: Dave Mitchell

Country: Vietnam

Email: davem@gci-int.com

Tell the world about how you contribute to surveying.:

I've been surveying in Vietnam and South East Asia since 1993 and we have our own business (GCI), which has been based in Saigon since 1998.

We've worked on hydroelectric and thermal power stations, cable-stayed bridges, highways and expressways, resorts, urban development projects, GIS, forestry and high rise buildings over the years.

Survey work, in various forms, has taken us to Cambodia, Laos, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

GCI's core business is surveying and mapping for infrastructure projects for international design and/or civil construction firms. GCI's present engagements include: a cable-stayed bridge in the north, a residential project in the centre and a resort/casino development in the south, so we're currently operating all over the country.

We use Nikon optical gear and Ashtech GPS equipment. On the software side, we use FAST Survey (Surv CE) on Ashtech MMCX field terminals and Carlson Civil Suite in the office.

I'd be pleased to hear from any surveyors, or related professionals, with an interest in this part of the world or surveying, mapping, GIS in general.

Cheers
Dave.
